Families Pedal to the Medal

I recently discovered that one of the best ways to get the desired exposure when managing an event isn’t all about flashy advertising- but another angle one can approach is simply to make the event more family orientated. Sounds weird doesn’t it? Have a look at The Momentum Health National Duathlon series for instance; it comprised of six stages from the 4th of March until the 19th of August allowing athletes to compete all over the country. But that’s not what got my attention. The series organizers made it clear that as competitive as these events may be, it can still be a fun-filled family activity. The list of options ranged from:

Ø  A ‘Brats’ race
Ø  A ‘Kiddies race
Ø  And the main race consisting of a 5km run followed by a 40km cycle and finishes off with another 2.5km run

So from now on, bring the wife and kids along.

  1. Advertising is great for any exposure, the campaign seems like a good initiative, I sure will look it up.

  2. This was really a great strategy and sometimes keeping things simple is a great way to get exposure. It is not always big things or big names that is needed to get exposure but the fun and simple things make a big difference.

  3. I believe marketing and advertising are key factors to the success of an event.

It is nice to see that there are competetive sporting events where the whole family can take part.

Looking forward to your next blog....

  4. Well generally being able to make a event a "Family Day" is a good thing because I know from personal experience how often family members battle against the sun for hours just to be there for support. But those Big names and flashy advertising do create more attention therefore locking more participants. So what if this event did exactly that, they could attract way more families couldn't they?

    1. By getting big names to participate? I think they did that quite well with the likes of Brand Du Plesis
